Dr. John Maclachlan completed his PhD at McMaster (School of Geography and Earth Sciences) in 2011. He is currently Manager of Assessment and Educational Initiatives for McMaster Housing and Conference Services and Industry Professor in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences. A recipient of the 2014 President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning, he has taught numerous classes at McMaster, Guelph and Brock University, the majority being categorized as physical geography; inquiry courses within the Faculties of Science and Social Sciences; and those specifically involving Sustainability. In Arts & Science, Dr. Maclachlan teaches ARTSSCI 3EH3 / Exploring Hamilton Inquiry.
Dr. Maclachlan’s current research is split between the pedagogical study of advancing the use of technologies into classroom teaching and learning and exploration of landforms and sediments both in the mountains and under the ground.
Dr. Maclachlan’s research has been published in journals such as Quaternary Science Advances and Health and Place. He is also co-author of A Splendid Torch: Learning and Teaching in Today’s Academic Libraries (CLIR Report No. 174, 2017).
