Dr. Stephen Jones, who holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of California, Berkeley, is Professor in the Department of Economics at McMaster. He has also worked at the University of British Columbia, the London School of Economics, DELTA (Paris), and the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton). He has served as Co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics and as Program Director for the Canadian Labour Market and Skills Researcher Network. Dr. Jones has been teaching ARTSSCI 2E03 / Economics: Principles and Policy since 2018-19, using a new text that is open source and online.
His research has covered many areas in labour economics, including job search theory and estimation, unemployment insurance, unions and bargaining, and minimum wages. He has also worked on economic models of social interaction and has published in sociology journals as well as in economics outlets. Most recently, Dr. Jones has addressed the econometric classification of labour market states, the measurement of unemployment, and the role of marginal workers in a comparative analysis of Canada and the US.
