Dr. Beth Marquis is the Director of the Arts & Science program and an Associate Professor in the Arts & Science Program and the School of the Arts. Since joining Arts & Science in 2012-13, she has taught or co-taught a range of classes, including ARTSSCI 1B03 / Writing, ARTSSCI 1C06 / Global Challenges Inquiry, ARTSSCI 3B03 / Technology and Society I, ARTSSCI 4CB3 / Education Inquiry, and ARTSSCI 4CP3 / Media Inquiry. She has also taught courses in Theatre & Film Studies within the School of the Arts, and previously served as Associate Director (Research) at the MacPherson Institute.

Dr. Marquis received an Honours BA in Psychology and Drama (Theatre & Film Studies) from McMaster, an MA in Cinema Studies from New York University, and a PhD in Drama (focusing on Film and Performance Studies) from the University of Toronto. Her teaching and research interests include the politics of documentary film, the social and pedagogical functions of popular media, and teaching and learning in postsecondary education (with particular foci on education for social justice and student-faculty pedagogical partnership). Her work in these areas has been published in journals such as The Canadian Journal of Higher Education, Higher Education Research & Development, Teaching in Higher Education, The International Journal for Academic Development, The Journal of Film & Video, Studies in Documentary Film, and The Journal of Popular Film and Television. She is also co-author of Promoting Equity and Justice through Pedagogical Partnership (Stylus, 2021). Dr. Marquis regularly partners with undergraduate students on teaching and learning research, and was a founding co-editor of The International Journal for Students as Partners.
