Dr. Stacy Creech de Castro Featured in CBC Article
ARTSSCI 1B03 / Writing instructor, Dr. Stacy Creech de Castro, was recently featured in an article written by Maria-Gabriela Aguzzi as part of Radio Canada International’s coverage of Black History Month.
In the piece, Dr. Creech de Castro speaks eloquently about what it means to be Afro-Latina in Canada, and about how her interactions with diverse Afro-Latinx communities have “strengthened [her] desire to conduct research, to offer university courses, and to publish texts that focus on these issues, communities, and people.” In discussing her teaching, which includes courses in Latin American and Latinx Studies, African and Black Diaspora Studies, and English and Cultural Studies as well as in Arts & Science, she notes that she “invite[s] students to reflect on race and racialization from decolonial and anticolonial methodologies” and to engage “with Black Latin American and Afro-Latinx thinkers and people whose work highlights and celebrates Blackness.”
