Dr. David Goutor Honoured with OUSA Teaching Award
Congratulations to Dr. David Goutor for receiving a 2024 Ontario University Student Alliance (OUSA) Teaching Award for Excellence.
Dr. Goutor’s students describe his classroom as a genuine place for learning and discussion, with papers that enable students to relate their out-of-class learning to the course material and really consolidate their knowledge. Not to mention, he is a great orator, witty, friendly to students and excels at facilitating discussions and educational conversations with students, making them feel heard before smoothly transitioning to the next student’s comments. With his thoroughly engaging lectures, students are captivated regardless of the length of the class. These sentiments were shared by Abby Samuels, VP Education for the McMaster Students Union, in the award presentation at the OUSA Partners in Higher Education Dinner (PiHED), which took place on 10 April 2024.
Dr. Goutor, Assistant Professor and Director of the School of Labour Studies, teaches ARTSSCI 3BB3 / Technology and Society II in the Arts & Science Program. He has a wide range of research and teaching interests which include technology, the future of work, immigration, human rights, globalization, and workers’ response to changing social, economic and technological conditions. He also enjoys teaching interactive courses on unions and social movements, as well as a placement course in Labour Studies, in which students do research in the field for unions, community organizations, or human resources departments.
On behalf of the Arts & Science program and the Artsci students that supported Dr. Goutor’s nomination for this prestigious award, we wish to thank Dr. Goutor for his tremendous impact on student learning and for fostering a classroom environment that encourages students to share thoughts and ideas that contribute to a shared community of learning. Congratulations, Dr. Goutor on this incredible achievement!
