Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh Delivers the 2019 Arts & Science Winter Lecture
Last week, Arts & Science faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and students of all levels gathered together for the Program’s 2019 Winter Lecture.
A tradition nearly as old as Arts & Science itself, this year marked the 32nd Winter Lecture in the Program’s 37-year history.
This year’s speaker was Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh, Professor of History and Global Human Rights at McMaster. Currently Acting Director of Peace Studies, Dr. Ibhawoh also taught the first-year Arts & Science Inquiry course in 2014-15. His compelling talk, “For the Sake of Humanity: Empathy, Apathy, and Peacebuilding in a Conflicted World,” explored activism, indifference, human rights, patriotism, nationalism, justice, inclusion, pacifism, peace, and more.
At the conclusion of the lecture, students remained for coffee, tea, cookies, and small, intimate group discussions with Dr. Ibhawoh.
Dr. Ibhawoh now joins the Arts & Science Program’s roster of Winter Lecture speakers, which includes Dr. Louis Greenspan, Dr. Atif Kubursi, Dr. Sara Mendelson, and a long list of others.
