Artsci Student Wins Award of Merit at European Studies Conference

Level IV Artsci student Jasmine Wright recently received an award of merit for her contributions to the University of Guelph’s annual Undergraduate European Studies Conference. The conference, held on 25 November 2017, encourages undergraduate students from a broad range of disciplines to present research on topics focusing on European contexts. Jasmine’s paper, “Best Practices for Reconciliation after the Srebrenica Genocide,” was inspired by a solo trip she took in June 2017 to Croatia and Bosnia to learn more about post-conflict challenges following the wars of the 1990s.

Jasmine is continuing her research in this field in her ARTSSCI 4C06 thesis this year, which examines the achievability of reconciliation concerning the Srebrenica genocide in contemporary Bosnia. The award of merit she received at the U of Guelph conference was in recognition of her commentary during the discussion period on the achievability of reconciliation in comparative contexts, such as Rwanda.
