Exciting News Shared at the Annual Artsci Social!

On Friday 10 March 2017, the Arts & Science Program held a lively “Milk & Cookies” Social in the Great Hall, University Club. A capacity crowd of Artsci students, staff, faculty, and guests gathered to hear University President Dr. Patrick Deane announce the news of an historic donation.

President Deane introduced guest of honour Bruce Miyashita, a member of the first cohort of Arts & Science students, whose $350,000 gift is the largest in the Program’s 35-year history. The Tom and Nancy Miyashita Arts & Science Program Enrichment Fund, created in honour of Bruce’s parents, will be used to develop a new “World of Work” forum, designed to provide hands-on project management experience for students as well as to bring in speakers and presenters to interact with students on topics that reflect the world of work in the 21st century. In his address to the Artsci community, Bruce spoke of the connections and synergies between his own career in business and his interdisciplinary Artsci background.

It was also announced that the Arts & Science Program office would be moving from its current home in the Commons Building to the brand new L.R. Wilson Hall. The large modern space on the third floor will have several collaborative and flexible spaces for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to continue to develop innovative programming and exciting initiatives such as the one made possible by Artsci graduate Bruce Miyashita (Class of 1984).
