Looking Back on This Year’s Artsci Fishbowl Nights
Level-I Fishbowl Night
A large and inquisitive group of first-year students gathered for pizza and a lively exchange with a panel of upper-level Arts & Science students and professors in the Arts & Science Program library on Wed. 22 Oct. 2014.
Over a simple pizza meal, organized by Artsci students Suzy Flader and Gali Katznelson, participants were first of all treated to a presentation on the new Learning Portfolio initiative, headed by Arts & Science professor Dr. John Maclachlan and Arts & Science / MIIETL student scholars Rachel Liu and Xochil Argueta-Warden.
Participants then discussed a wide range of topics, including:
- extra-curricular opportunities
- how to spend the summer months
- career prospects and decisions
- mental health issues
- who to see for academic advising
- how to make the most of office hours
- good places to study
- resources such as books in the Arts & Science library
- recreational opportunities (or, how to avoid the “Freshman 15”)
Upper Level Fishbowl Night
A crowd of upper year students gathered for our second Fishbowl Night of the year on Tues. 20 Jan. 2015. We welcomed a wonderfully insightful panel of Artsci alumni and faculty, featuring Caitlin Allan, Dan Lawlor, James Grice, Vivian Tam, Dr. Chen, Dr. Maclachlan, and Dr. Wilson.
A variety of topics put forth by students were discussed, including:
- the essence of an Arts & Science degree
