Recent Publications by Artsci Grads
Check out the recent or upcoming publications by Justina Chong, Nadine Ijaz, Paige Mawson, and Farzana Doctor. Congratulations to all four Artsci alumni!
Justina Chong
Artsci grad (2009) Justina Chong was recently featured in Room Magazine (Issue 43.2). Her story “Food Memories” is a piece of creative nonfiction. “Name me a food, and I’ll tell you a story.” The writer responds to her mother’s disappointment about her veganism with a series of vignettes about durian, dumplings, meatloaf, and more. The story is only available in print, but the link to the webpage for the issue can be accessed here.
Nadine Ijaz and Paige Mawson
Artsci grad (2002) and ARTSSCI 3GJ3 / Global Justice Inquiry prof (2017-19) Nadine Ijaz and her former student / now fellow Artsci alum Paige Mawson (2019) have co-authored an article recently published in the journal Canadian Jewish Studies/Etudes Juives Canadiennes. Collaboration on the paper “Cultivating a Jewish Eco-Education Framework: The Toronto Heschel School’s Teaching and Learning Garden,” which started when Paige was a student in Dr. Ijaz’s inquiry course, continued as they worked with students in the following year’s ARTSSCI 3GJ3 class, who had undertaken and analysed additional qualitative interviews and conducted additional literature review. The article focuses on how students learn about ecology and Jewish identity through the teaching and learning garden at the Toronto Heschel School. Click here to read the full paper.
