Dr. Alison McQueen teaches ARTSSCI 3TR3 / Trees and their Histories. She is a Professor in the Department of History. Her research and teaching interests focus on visual and material culture, particularly in nineteenth-century France. Professor McQueen is recipient of the McMaster Student Union Teaching Award for Humanities. She has been a Visiting Scholar at the American Academy in Rome and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. Her research has been supported by grants from the Graham Foundation and the Samuel H. Kress Foundation in the United States as well as three multi-year grants from Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Dr. McQueen’s book Empress Eugénie and the Arts was awarded a prize by the Fondation Napoléon (2011), and she is completing a revised French edition, Eugénie et les arts (forthcoming 2022). She is author of a further three books, as well as co-author of two books, and has published numerous articles. Dr. McQueen has been invited to present her research at museums in Canada, the United States, England, France, Germany, Scotland, and The Netherlands.
