Dr. Kristin Patterson is an independent curator and writer who teaches widely in the field of visual culture, media studies, museology, and gender studies. Dr. Patterson teaches ARTSSCI 4VC3 / Visual Culture Inquiry, a course that aims to explore a wide range of theoretical perspectives on visual culture while generating critical dialogue with an acute sense of aesthetic concern and social function.
Dr. Patterson received an Honours BA in Art History from McMaster and an MA and PhD in Visual Culture from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, England. Her research and classroom interests, often located on the boundaries between disciplines, borrow from distinct fields to bring a novel critical perspective to the process of interpretation. Increasingly important for Dr. Patterson is the use of innovative pedagogical models and the integration of technology in the learning experience. Her current research explores the relationship between feminism and domesticity in contemporary visual practices and popular culture.
