Artsci Student in New York to Staff Model United Nations Conference

On 15 March 2022, Arts & Science student Oyin Aderibigbe travelled to New York City to help staff this year’s iteration of the annual National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) Conference. Established in 1974 by the International Model United Nations Association (IMUNA), NHSMUN is the largest and most prestigious Model United Nations conference in the world. Through workshops and simulations, it provides an educational experience for over 5000 students globally, whose participation allows them to understand international relations and develop skills in diplomacy, critical thinking, and compromise.

After an intensive selection process, Oyin joined over 100 staffers from across the world responsible for running the conference. Recognized by NHSMUN Secretary-General Ankita Bhat as “an indispensable member” of the team, Oyin served as the Assistant Director of the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, which explored the topics “Addressing Police Violence at Civilian Demonstrations” and “Tackling the Stigma against People with Albinism in Sub-Saharan Africa.” Oyin supported delegates in the conference by drafting an update paper for participants, providing feedback to delegate papers, and mediating her committee. As someone who is passionate about international politics and global affairs, Oyin was thrilled to support this initiative.
