Arts & Science Student in The Spec for Disability Justice Movement
As co-founder of the Disability Justice Network of Ontario, Artsci student Shanthiya Baheerathan is “creating a world where people with disabilities are free to be.”
Working along side two other McMaster University grads, Baheerathan’s new network, which officially launches on 13 Sept., 2018, is aimed at empowering Hamilton’s disabled residents to “thrive, build power, and have personal and political agency.” While its name suggests a provincial scope, the network’s reach is going to stay within Hamilton’s borders throughout its early stages, but the group has ambitions to grow outwardly in just three years’ time.
