Artsci Student Anand Sergeant Wins Top Scholar-Athlete Award
On Friday 29 November, Level III Arts & Science student Anand Sergeant, winner of the Dr. Jack Kennedy Award, was honoured as McMaster University’s top male scholar-athlete. Upon receiving the award, Sergeant addressed a packed CIBC Hall, where he and his fellow student-athletes were gathered for the 2019 Marauder Scholar Breakfast. The event, hosted by the Department of Athletics and Recreation, celebrates students who achieve a 9.5 or higher grade point average while also competing on a McMaster varsity club or team.
Sergeant, a U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian, was also named a first Team OUA Soccer All-Star earlier this year. A Dean’s Honour List member, he was one of 376 McMaster student-athletes named a Marauder Scholar at the ceremony, eight of whom were from the Arts & Science Program: Andrew Dissanayake (Swimming), Kristen Gracie (Field Hockey), Sarah Hillson (Lacrosse), Romi Lifshitz (Fencing), Rachel Murgel (Cheerleading), Anand Sergeant (Soccer), Ryan Tse (Ultimate), and Daniel Van Veghel (Curling).
Congratulations to this year’s inspiring student-athletes!
