Sarah Polley Addresses Artsci Convocation

In her address to the joint Arts & Science Program and Faculty of Humanities Convocation on 13 June 2017, actor, director, writer, producer, and social activist Sarah Polley spoke movingly about her own experience of confronting fear. The honorary degree recipient, who is no stranger to the Artsci community (she is married to David Sandomierski, an Artsci alum and instructor), was an inspiring and generous presence throughout the day. Her insights into the possible coexistence of fear and action were well received by the Class of 2017, who had the special opportunity to talk with her personally at a reception held for Arts & Science graduates, guests, faculty, and staff at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre following the ceremony.
Valedictorian Gali Katznelson, a graduating Arts & Science student, addressed Convocation with an entertaining and thoughtful “essay.” The reception following the ceremony featured two speakers: graduating Artsci student Spencer Williams, who had served as President of the Society of Arts & Science Students in 2016-17, and Artsci Program Director Dr. Jean Wilson.
